Materials Needed
- To get started, gather the following materials:
- Power Drill with 1/2″ and 1/8″ drill bits
- Phillips Screwdriver (suitable for 8 screws)

- Marine-Grade Sealant (3M 4200 sealant is recommended)
- General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner

How to Mount and Wire LED Light Strips
Stage One
First, determine where you want to install the lights. Choose a clean, level surface for optimal placement. Prepare the chosen areas by cleaning them with alcohol to remove any contaminants. Cut out the templates provided with your LED lights and tape them to the boat’s frame. Use the markings on the templates to indicate the center and mounting holes with a marker.
Stage Two
Now comes the fun part – drilling into the boat’s body. Make sure there are no obstructions behind the chosen installation spots. After drilling the holes, wipe the area clean with a towel. If desired, use sandpaper to smooth the area inside the diameter opposite to where the light installation will go. This will help the adhesive bond better.
Note: If you prefer, you can wire the LED lights into existing interior lighting, eliminating the need to drill holes to conceal the wiring.
Stage Three
Thread the wires of the light through the interior opening. Apply a thin bead of sealant around the edge of the installation, approximately 1/8″ to 1/4″ from the edge. Ensure that the sealant is rubbed into and around the mounting and main holes to create a watertight seal.
Stage Four
Gently pull the cables and position the fixtures precisely where you want them. Using the #8 screws (2 screws per fixture), secure the fixtures to the boat. Remember to only hand-tighten the screws until the adhesive begins to ooze out from the sides of the installation. Avoid overtightening, and if any excess glue appears, simply wipe it away.
Stage Five
Refer to the wiring diagram that accompanied the LED lights for step-by-step instructions on wiring the lighting. Make sure to secure any exposed wire with electrical tape to prevent accidents and corrosion.
Once you have completed these steps, test your lights to ensure they are in working order. And with that, you’re ready to hit the water!
Just remember to give the adhesive time to dry before taking your boat out for a spin. We hope you find this guide helpful. Feel free to like, share, or comment. If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Happy boating!
